Snowy Saturday

Today started off with a long swim, 3150 meters. Somewhat tolerable, since we started with the longer sets and worked our way down. The workout was not made much easier by the Sake and Asahi consumed at dinner last night (thanks, Casper!)

Post-swim I had to skip Tea & Toast (the highlight of the swim, unfortunately for me) to join the boys for a snowy ski. Legs are tired after snowplowing through the freshies!

On tap for tomorrow is a long run and 30 min ride. Then perhaps time to finish some work?

On tap for today

We did our short recovery run today… 2 easy miles. And by we, of course, I mean the dogs and I. They needed the recovery time more than me!
I’m currently training for the “Vancouver First Half Marathon” in mid-February, then it’s on to the Vancouver half marathon and then the Oliver 1/2 iron. We’ll see what else we can squeeze in there!
We’ve had lots of snow & rain these past few days, so we stuck to the roads.
Next up? Potentially some time on the trainer BUT I do have a lot of work to do, so we’ll just have to see!

At the end of today’s trot:

Day 3

I’ve been up since 6 this morning, despite my firm declaration that I was going to sleep in because Will is with his grandparents. Oh well, I am not alone, lots of people are up this morning.

Seem to be fighting a touch of a cold (thanks, Will!) but I’ll be fine. Nothing a little cold and flu medicine won’t fix.

This morning I’ll do a short swim, have a quick bite, head over to the swim start to hear some pros talk about strategy (though I suspect theirs is VERY different from mine i.e. go fast vs make it to the bike transition) and then return to camp for Marie-Anne’s feast of french toast!

I suspect there’s a nap in my future, too.

Day 2

Slowly getting used to the pace of life here at Ironman. We are having quite a relaxing time – provided we stick to the campground. Otherwise, it’s TRI GEEK CENTRAL. Everyone is wearing logo wear pretty much from head to toe, parading through town, generally looking quite proud of themselves (which, I suppose, they should be). It does make for some excellent people watching.

Yesterday I went for a ride with Marie-Anne out on the run course. Fun heading out, major head wind coming back! But it was good to scope out the landmarks.

We had another nice “family” dinner with Bob, Marie-Anne and Pete, told some good stories and went to bed a little later than I probably should have. But Marie-Anne was tipsy, so the entertainment was well worth it.

This morning we swam again in the choppy water and then went to hand out in the Expo. It’s really starting to get busy. Volunteers were setting up the transitions so it’s time to go take some pictures and get my race package.

Ironman 2007

We’ve arrived safely at our home away from home in Penticton, the Park Royal RV “resort” (let’s use that term loosely).
We are all settled into our 28 foot 5th wheel trailer, which is lovingly decorated in a fabulous wood panel/mauve and green floral print motif. Despite this, it’s quite comfy and there’s room for all our crap.
Will has immediatly found a friend, Grayson from Portland so he’s happy.

Yesterday I went for a short run along the canal and back through town where I promptly got lost. Good times!
Last night was a terrific dinner of ribs, catered by Bob and Marie-Anne. Early bed time as we were all tired from a long day.

Up early this morning, it’s quite chilly! Bob, Marie-Anne and I headed to the lake for a short swim. The water was fairly choppy but there were still lots of swimmers.

We’re off to set up the Soze booth and I will pick up my race package! Woohoo!

More later,
